The barrels are actual wood with a plastic liner. Other similar water features were simulated wood and do not look real. This one will age nicely as a result. Assembly was easier that expected and I had the fountain running in less than 30 minutes. I don't know why there was a rating for "light weight" because it isn't light - it's made of actual wood and iron - but it isn't so heavy one person can't carry it. The pump handle was assembled poorly and had been knocked wonky during shipment but that was easily corrected. It's been running for a month and looks good. Be sure to keep the pump intake clear because there's no filter. If a leaf falls into the lower barrel it can clog the pump intake. Also, depending on where you live, every week add an algicide to keep the water clear and a anti-larval to keep it from becoming a mosquito breeding ground.
