After unpacking and tools assembled, it took me 40 minutes to put this together by myself. That includes missing part of the directions and having to undo and redo the bolts, and carefully peeling off stickers off the shelves and examining it to which side I wanted to use. I assembled it without help.It really is well done, and both Edge pieces are finished so you can decide which way is front and which way is back based on the look of the woodIt felt sturdy even before the final step of putting the cross bracing in. Fits nicely in my corner.Seems about 3/4 size to a regular wooden book case. Put tall books on the sides to work with the height of the metal side bars. This took about an hour to assemble. It was well packaged, surrounded by styrofoam and a few cardboard pieces. I made sure I had all the pieces before assembly and noticed on the instructions (I included pictures of the instructions, a front and back of the paper) that I need a Philips head screwdriver (the one that makes an X). Luckily I had one and everything worked out fine. I would suggest that as you assemble it, don't tighten the screws all the way, except for the bottom shelf. I worked from the top down. Once I had the bottom shelf in, I tightened the bottom shelf all the way. Then I put the two support bars across the back, again not tightening all the way just yet. When I picked the shelf up off the floor, I went back through and tightened all the screws. When putting the sides together, be aware of the direction of the holes in the metal and which way the screws are supposed to go in. It seems sturdy and well made. I saw in the description that each shelf only holds about 33 pounds and I think that won't be a problem. It looks like the pictures.I love this bookshelf (to the point where I bought two). They're absolutely gorgeous and are sturdy while being light enough that I can easily move them. The assembly was slightly different for the two that I bought. One used little cams that were inserted into the shelves to give the screws something to grip onto. I needed a second set of hands to hold all the pieces still but otherwise, it was a quick and easy assembly. The second set, though, didn't have the cams and just had you screwing directly into the wood. I tried using the hand tools provided (since everything says that should be enough) but I couldn't get the screws more than a quarter of a turn. We ended up using a power drill with a hex head and then the screws went right in. I don't know what I would have done without the power tool.I really love how sturdy it is. Very nice looking, with the option to anchor.Unfortunately during assembly they missed drilling a hole on one of the bars and without the tool to fix it my self I had to tape the bars together to hold them. So far it's working, but if it were to be used in a warm environment it would collapse. Just a heads up!!I'm pretty accustomed to getting the least-functional, most broken products from Amazon when I place an order. Almost 8/10 times, if someone leaves a negative review about how a product is the worst, how it doesn't function, or how it fell apart, what I receive will do the same thing. So you can imagine my shock when, once the shelf was put together, it not only look great, but it was sturdy. I put all my books on it, some weighing easily 5 lbs or more (garden encyclopedias and such), and the shelves are holding up wonderfully. The colors are also beautifully rich, and go perfectly with my room. This was a very happy purchase.I was able to put this together by myself (I am a woman in my 70's). I do think it would have been quicker if two people were doing it but I managed within a few hours. The construction was strong and the diagrams clear so I would recommend it but it does warn of a tipping problem if heavy things are in it with young children around. I don't have this issue. I think the price is very good and the quality was great! This was fairly easy to put together and it looks real nice in my livingroom.
