This is a fantastic little gadget. I was intending to use it to test sugar in wines but learned an important lesson. Alcohol affects liquid density and throws a brix meter's readings off. Alcohol is less dense than water, sugars are more dense than water and the starting point to calibrate these meters has to be 0 sugar distilled water. If you know that, you're ahead of me already. Now to the function.This is so easy to use. There are only a couple buttons and anyone can figure this out. It is easy to clean with the included cloth and a little water. It reads nearly instantly so if you have a ton of samples in your lab this is a great tool that will save you tons of time. It does state you're not supposed to drop it but it does include a rubbery protective case in addition to the robust build of the unit itself. It comes with enough pipettes to get you started but I'd suggest ordering more if you don't happen to have a supply already ready to go. The accuracy on this is fantastic. Digital takes all the interpretive guesswork out of using a traditional visual refractometer. There simply isn't room for human error.After learning about alcohol affecting density, I tested a dozen or more non-alcoholic consumable liquids in my house and had a great time with it. I'm naturally curious so ended up burning a couple hours answering questions I didn't need to ask in the first place about what I drink. Anyway, this is a professional device that's really easy to use.
