This pen is absolutely gorgeous to use, look at, and moves stunningly with the burgundy colored extra fine, and yes even though people complement me already on my calligraphy this pen actually improved it by a whole 'nother level.A quick note on Soft nibs. Soft nibs allow for much easier calligraphy as you don't need to lift the pen off at all and continue with your writing by simply pressing GENTLY on the nib to split the nibs mouth to increase ink flow. Now this nib is NOT like other soft nibs. It takes a bit more Oomph to bend it which is good as you don't want to be writing with a paintbrush but it sure can act like one if you want. The writing is smooth, fluid, and it has no problem catching up to me, but that also may be due in part to the ink I use which is Pelikan Turquoise. Also as mentioned back to the paintbrush analogy, this pen can actually create actual shades of color which is very nice. It does have a 'bit' of a scratchy sound when writing with it but that is normal for fountain pens on paper, and I personally enjoy the sound, but unlike other reviewers I have not experienced any 'squeaky' sounds and this could be my choice of ink. Feel like I'm Thomas Jefferson writing the Declaration of Independence. Pen has no bleeding problems could be my ink again, screw on cap so no ink spills, and very well crafted with a real nice 'heft' to it.For those of you considering the collection (more expensive one) over the resin as I did there are some things to consider. This is the superior pen to the resin as it has rhodium plating on the nib instead of full gold which makes this pen resistant to ink (ink doesn't stick to the nib when filling) so its easy to clean really easy, only the collection can do Extra Fine (which I love), and it also has a much larger ink capacity. Lastly of course this pen is not resin but has metal barrels with rhodium accents. I thought the extra features were worth the $240, but don't be mistaken this is a very solid pen and you won't need to buy another for a long time like 20-life years long time. People ask is it worth it? OH yes. There is NO pen at this price range this good. TRULY outstanding. If you're new to fountain pens go get a regular hard one for 20 bucks try another at 70 and then this. You'll see what I mean. Not to mention that this is a soft nib so in essence you are getting four fountain pens in one as you can change the thickness of the line from extra fine to broad simply by pressing on the nib which in turn could save you upwards of 350 dollars. Now there is a resin model of this make at 144 dollars and you basically get the great nib and if you're looking for a cheap solid fountain pen get that as others will have problem with calligraphy (design) unless you buy a soft nib which the collection and the resin model both are. The reason for that price is due to this wonderful Nib. You can't do better with any other brand unless you go to a Nib mister and fork cash over, so do yourself a favor and get the Namiki Falcon pen or the collection version.Only thing I can think of about this pen that's bad is that writing with the cap on makes it a bit heavy but I like it as it help put more pressure on the tip for the bending strokes. The ink reservoir is a bit tricky with the pump and I realized you have to just keep pressing the pump button maybe like 5+ times for the ink to really flowing into the tube. However these are extremely MINOR and do not warrant any star deductions. There is also an included 3 year warranty as long as you register your pen. That is very nice and rare as far as pens go. Pilot is showing you that they really support their product.
