Pyle PCJD15 Brown Percussion Effect - Professional Drum Accessory for Live Performances & Studio Recording

I ordered this cajon for my father, who had just learned of the instrument from a friend, who had a homemade version. I am a lover of all that is down-home musical (currently experimenting with a diddley bow), but wasn’t familiar with the cajon. I was intrigued with the concept (a sit-upon, unplugged, adjustable/variable percussion beast), but was skeptical of the low price for such an instrument. I knew the Pyle brand, so gave it a try, with my father’s blessings. If you are curious about the cajon, it is so worth it to try this one out! It produces impressive percussion sound (with varied tones, depending on how close to the center and with what you strike it, while sitting on it). Yes, you sit on it (no worries, it is surprisingly solid and well-made, truly surprisingly beautiful wood finishing for the price). The “guitar strings” that provide that snare-type quality are situated behind the front cover, accessible through a large hole in the back of the unit (not well illustrated in the item pictures, but this is where the loud sound emanates from). They arrived taut, no need to adjust, but there is a hex wrench included with the cajon, in a cute little hole drilled in the vertical support between those strings, for when adjustment becomes necessary. When I placed the order, I felt like this instrument might be a little too good to be true (at this price), but I have to admit it is comparable, sound wise, to my African jun jun. If you’ve seen a cajon in action (YouTube has some amazing solo videos) and you want to check one out, you will not be disappointed with this one!
