Update 5/31/2023: I cannot believe I’ve had this thing for 10 years! It’s still going strong. We have moved since we got it, so it handled the move well. I did have to tighten one or two of the big screw thingies but other then that, no issues. My husband still uses, and never went back to using a laundry basket was a hamper. No complaints from him.Update: almost four years later and it's still going strong. The price tags was still to high to get one for my son, so I got him a tall fabric hamper to make difficult for the dog to get into the clothes. I did buy a second one recently, for my husband's laundry. He didn't want to share a hamper. He likes to keep his dirty laundry in the laundry basket. Since we are selling our house, his dirty laundry has to be in something that will hide it, and this will fit the bill. No one wants to see his dirty drawers. Still very happy with mine. Was worth every penny. After an expensive vet visit involving a sock, I determined that our old hampers would no longer suffice because they didn't have lids. Long story short, dog ate sock. Dog threw up sock and a few more times after that. Anyway, I searched high and low for one that was the right size. I also wanted something that would blend in nicely with our bedroom. I wanted something that didn't look like cheap plastic. If I wanted cheap plastic, I'd run to the Wal-Mart up the street. I misread the dimensions and it turns out it was shorter than I expected but was a few inches wider than our old ones, so it evened out. It's laundry day tomorrow, so our existing hamper was mostly full. I transferred the dirty clothes to this one and it fit nicely with the lid closed. It should be able to handle one more days' worth of clothing.Assembly.In the box you get the fabric bag with long thin metal rails, two large wood slatted panels (front and back), two smaller ones (sides) and a panel made of really hard cardboard (what's the correct term?) as the bottom. You also get the needed hardware with a separate bag of hardware labeled "extra". It also came with a little tool that was flat head on one side and Philips on the other. I used it, but I preferred my own tools because I could get a better grip on them. The hamper was relatively easy to assemble. If you have assembled Ikea furniture before, this will be a breeze. It took about 30 minutes and that was me taking my time. I probably could have got it done in 15-20 minutes if I tried. It was very light, so it wasn't difficult to move around while assembling. The hardest part was screwing on the lid to the hinges and the lever. I would recommend a light power tool. A simple power screw driver would suffice. They have the hinges on one side already screwed in. But the holes on the lid are barely started. You need more than a hand tool to screw in the screws.Looks:I don't know if it's real wood. If it's fake, they did a really good job of making it look real. It looks really nice. I like the color. It's almost like cherry wood only a bit lighter. The picture is pretty accurate but it depends on your monitor settings. It's about as wide as your standard bathroom door and falls about 12 inches short of the door handle. It holds mine and my husband's laundry and we do laundry once a week. If you have kids, I would recommend you get additional ones.Final thoughts:I've only had this for a few hours, so if anything changes, I will most certainly update it. I like the way it looks, I like that the lid opens smoothly. It will slam shut if you are not careful. The arm attached to the lid absorbs some of the force, but if you let the lid fall shut, it will slam. The handles on the side make it easy to move around. I may consider getting one for my son because if the dog cannot get to my socks, he will try to get to my son's. I am not sure why he feels the need to eat MY socks. I think having the hamper will stop that. The only thing left that I don't like is the price. It's a bit high but if it's durable and doesn't fall apart in a year, it will be money well spent. I may keep an eye on the price and see if it goes down before I buy my son one.Pros:Looks nicer then cheap plastic hampers, blends in nicely with wood furniture.Easy to assemblelightHolds the right amount of laundry for two people who do laundry once a week. (not including bathroom towels)Cons:PriceLid will slam shut if you are not carefulSome might not like the size. If you are looking for a family sized hamper, look elsewhere.I hope this review helped. I will try to answer any questions you may have.UPDATE: 3/5/2016It's still in great shape. No bend or cracks. The color had not faded either. All in all, it still looks the same as when I got it. The only thing that came apart was the rubber feet thingy on the lid. They muffle the sound when the lid falls shut. You can get replacements of those anywhere. I meant to get more of them but I keep forgetting. I remember every time the lid falls on my head when I am reaching inside the hamper to get something at the bottom. :). You would think I would learn by now not to do that. The arm will keep the lid up, but if you bump into the lid, it will fall shut.
