We purchased several of these meadows plates with different knobs for our older home we recently purchased. The home already had white porcelain knobs, but hideous brass circle plates pitted with corrosion. None of the original doors had privacy locks on bathrooms or bedrooms. This was the solution we found to be able to keep the original door knobs while updating the look of the plates. Although the crystal and porcelain knobs that this company has are truly stunning, to my husbands dismay, I was insistent on keeping the original knobs of the home. The older porcelain knobs have a longer porcelain stems than the modern ones, so it took a little work to adapt them to fit. We had to drill the hole in the plate a little larger and then use a belt sander to sand down the collar of the plate about 1/4”. We used painters tape to wrap the plate to protect the finish of the rest of the plate while we worked. These plates are solid brass underneath the finish and very, very well made. With 10 interior door in our home, it took some time, but it was well worth it! The end result is exactly what I hoped for. Now, we have beautiful new plates with doors that lock, while maintaining some of the original character of our beautiful home! If your looking to retrofit old porcelain knobs, it CAN be done. You won’t be sorry on purchasing these!
