In this world where nothing is real wood, everything comes in a box, and assembly is required, this bookcase is a notch above. So, yes: it isn't real wood and it came in a box and it had to be assembled. But putting it together was quick and easy, and the bookcase is sturdy and attractive. The finish actually looks quite rich and not like the thin, vinyl paper-type finish that a lot of this type of furniture is covered in. It even has wood-like texture. This is a fine little bookcase, right at home in my hubby's home office. Would purchase again.
