These stair treads attach to your steps using a hook-and-loop fastening system, providing a safe, slip-resistant surface for you and your family including your dog or other pets. Additional Details Applications Each carpet stair tread comes with four adhesive-backed hooked-fiber strips that adhere to your step. Sewn into the back of each stair tread are four looped-fiber strips that attach to the hooked-fiber strips and keep each carpet tread in place. Materials Made of high-quality olefin carpet to resist stains and bound on all edges to prevent fraying. The entire fastening system takes place beneath the rug so none of the components will be seen from the top! Additionally, the low profile design of the hook-and-loop system creates a firm grip with no added bulkiness. We loved our beautiful wood stair treads, but they were not kind to senior pets (or me whenever I was wearing socks or loose slippers). After our senior dog's nasty fall, I blocked off the stairs completely and began searching for answers. I didn't even consult my husband before ordering the attachable treads and the smaller, matching carpet for the lower landing because I knew he would reject it on principle. I carefully cleaned the stairs and followed the instructions. I considered using a painter's tape that wouldn't stick as a base prior to using the product's own adhesive, but decided the stairs could always be refinished later, if necessary. I wanted to know the treads were secure. The product is well made, easy to install and should provide us years of service. I've seen comments that said everything sticks to them and they're difficult to clean. In our case, the toffee color hides more dust, fuzz, fur and lint than our dark wood stair treads ever did, which means I clean them weekly instead of daily. Our stairs now feel safe under foot and they look great. I had hoped this product would fit in with our PB inspired decor, but I was honestly surprised by how nice it looks installed. That was a relief because I expected my husband to protest. Instead he looked a little surprised, tried them out and said, "Nice."
